A Muddy Face

I want the mud on my face to be the proof I tried to live too hard. With grit, tenacity, and courage, I want to kick up the dirt and have sweat rolling down my face, all because I chose to really live the abundant life God gave me. I want to run well. “Well” doesn’t imply “perfect” or even in a Grace-like fashion; it just means I’m putting forth a strong effort. I won’t always do what I’m supposed to do; I won’t always make the right choice. I won’t always get what I want, but I’m trying. Eyes focused, feet on the ground, a heart in love with Christ, and a mind determined to be Kingdom-minded is what I call running well.
Not only do I want to run well, but I want to run and not get distracted. Does anyone else feel like they get so distracted and discouraged when there’re watching other runners?
I’m tired of looking at everyone else running beside me and wishing I could do it like them. I’m tired of wishing my life was different. I’m tired of crying about things that are 100% not my fault, and things that are 100% uncontrollable.
(A tiny rant..) When you’re on an online dating site, you live in a small town, and none of your friends have other single friends, then yea, I’m frustrated at that. Frustrated because it’s not my fault I’m not in a relationship. The opportunity is merely not an option right now, and as frustrating as that is, I cannot control that. (Okay, my rant is over)
Through all the many things I’ve walked through, God has graciously strengthened me. On the days when I just couldn’t take it anymore there, He stood ready to embrace the mess that I am… I will forever love Jesus for always being there for me.
However, I’m ready to kick it up a notch or two and sling some mud behind me. Anyone else?
I’ve learned that life won’t get any easier, and undoubtedly it will get more challenging, but by God’s strength, I can get stronger. I can ask Jesus for more strength, more forgiveness, more wisdom, truth, and grace, and He’ll give it to me Every. Single. Time.
Alright, people, if you needed a coach pep talk, then this one is for you. You are more than capable of doing this. Whatever “this” is in your life. God has created you for such a time as this. (Esther 4:14) So, roll up your sleeves, lock eyes with Jesus, and be filled with the power of the Holy Spirit. He has given you every tool and weapon you need to run the race before you. (2 Timothy 3:17; Hebrews 12:1-3)
As if you were one of my closes friends, I would tell you that yes, I see the impossible mountains ahead of you. I see the murky waters you’re currently trying to swim through. I remember getting the leaves out of your hair when you were walking through the wilderness, but girlfriend, you are not alone. God was by your side every step of the journey, and He will continue to be as you continue to press on toward the goal of knowing Jesus Christ our savior and Lord. (Philippians 3:14)
Remember who carved out each path before you.
Remember who placed each roadblock or open door in front of you.
Remember that God went and is going before you because He loves you. (Deuteronomy 31:8)
Remember that Jesus leads you beside still waters! (Psalm 23:2)
Remember that His yoke is easy, and His burden is light. (Matthew 11:28-30)
Above all things, remember the character of God. He is good. He is love, and He irrevocably adores you. Everything He does in your life is for your good and His glory. (Romans 8:28)
When pain is streaming louder than this truth, it’s hard to switch gears and listen to the small voice of the Holy Spirit, but dear one, be still and know that above all else, He is God. (Psalm 46:10) God desires so much for you, but he ultimately desires to show you who He is and just how much he can be everything you’ve ever needed or wanted.
You can do this. You can run this race with determination, grace, and with God’s strength alone. We’re going to make it, babe, We’re going to make it.
Loving Enduringly,
Lo
"Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.
(Hebrews 12:1-3)
